Please Speak

A painting I created for my youngest son. This poem pairs well with him because as outspoken as he is there are times that he chooses not to use him voice when it truly matters the most.
Black boy, black boy please open your mouth
Tell me what that chip on your shoulder is all about
The world wants to see you fall and
I just want you to give it your all
Walking around daily in silence
Letting it all slowly take you under
While I sit in the shadows letting my mind wonder
What’s it going to take to get you to talk?
What’s it going to take for you to show the world what I already know?
Molded by gifted hands and brought to life by Gods breath.
The blood that flows through your veins has you destined for greatness.
You have the strength of a warrior and the knowledge of a scholar.
Now open your mouth and please just speak
